Athletics

During the middle level years, a student undergoes significant physical, social, intellectual, and emotional change. Middle level athletic programs are designed to address the needs and characteristics of middle level students; developing a positive sense of self, developing empathy for others, and building confidence to engage the broader world. Middle school athletics include intramural and interscholastic programs.

Intramural Athletics
The intramural program provides an introduction to athletics with an emphasis on participation and enjoyment of physical activity while participating on a team. Events take place at Centennial and will not include travel or district-wide competitions.

Interscholastic Athletics
The interscholastic athletic program provides a transition between the intramural programs of the 6th and 7th grade levels and the more competitive high school program. The program offers continued emphasis on participation and enjoyment of physical activity while allowing increased attention to coaching and skill development, with six to eight contests with other schools.

A current CHSAA physical and athletic participation fee are required to register for interscholastic sports. The CHSAA physical form can be downloaded here. Although all four pages must be filled out to complete the form, BVSD only requires the fourth page to be submitted for participation in interscholastic athletics.
