Principal's Message
Welcome to Centennial Middle School!
Dear Cyclone Community,
Welcome to our new website and to our school community! Communication is a top priority for all of us and we are hoping that this site will serve to keep you updated on all things Centennial Middle School!
As we move toward the end of the 2019-20 school year we are encouraged by the work that is happening even during these unprecedented times. We continue to work to hold both a strong emphasis on our academic program while at the same time meet the needs of our learners by seeing them as full people who are developing through one of the most fascinating times of our life span...adolescence! To that end, we know that working in partnership with our families is critical as we attempt to meet this full spectrum of needs for your youth.
At Centennial our approach is to work diligently to ensure that all students are seen and held in the context of a caring community while we push them to obtain and maintain strong skills as scholars. Despite cultural messaging to the contrary, middle school is a wonderful time and all of the adults in our school have made a conscious choice to be here to support our youth during this critical time. We love it!!!
This year our school improvement efforts are helping us to create a flow in the school day that allows for teachers to deepen learning through our modified block schedule while at the same time create space for students to step back and get needed support with executive functioning in the context of high relationship. Our "R2ISE" time has been added recently to help our students to gain skills for understanding social and emotional intelligences. We have also, as educators, been studying ways for our school to become increasingly culturally responsive and equitable in our practices from how our lessons are delivered to how our discipline and classroom management practices impact all of our students.
There is no end to how we can grow and change as a school, and we invite you into this challenge with us as parents and learners together. Our modeling as adults to stay curious and passionate about the world around us has no substitute during these increasingly complex times.
Thank you for your trust and support as we work to provide your children with an experience of middle school that is truly second to none!!
Best regards,
John McCluskey
