Ruth was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. She attended Purdue University, where she earned her Bachelor and Master Degrees in Civil Engineering. She spent several years working as an engineer for a small firm in Indiana, and enjoys sharing her design experiences with her students. Ruth and her husband have three adult children and two granddaughters. They have lived in Boulder for 9 years, and this will be her eighth year teaching 6th, 7th, or 8th grade math at Centennial. Ruth enjoys helping her students see themselves as mathematicians and appreciate how math is used in everyday life. She also serves as one of the 360 program sponsors at Centennial. In her free time, she enjoys working in her yard and garden, reading, and hiking in the mountains.
